2013-open

Aloha and Welcome to the 2013 Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge, hosted by New York Outrigger.

Each year paddlers from across the globe travel to New York City for the opportunity to experience one of the busiest urban harbors in the world. Over the past 17 years, the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge has grown to become the largest outrigger regatta on the East Coast and an international gateway between Atlantic and Pacific paddling communities. With a race course covering over 15 miles of New York’s waterways, the Liberty Challenge provides New Yorkers with some amazing locations to view the competition.

This year’s race on Saturday, June 22nd marks the return of the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge to its original home in the Tribeca neighborhood of Hudson River Park. Returning Liberty to Tribeca is a celebration of the Hudson River Park Trust’s continuing efforts to transform five miles of Manhattan’s westide into a vibrant recreational greenspace.

In the spirit of ho’olaule’a (celebration) the 2013 Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge will have more entertainment and events than ever before. Whether you are a paddler traveling from across the globe, or a native New Yorker, we invite you and your family to take part in the festivities. In addition to the main event location in Tribeca, there will also be viewing stations to watch the race within Hudson River Park and at other points along the course.

New York Outrigger is excited to return our race to the park we call home and cannot wait to show our city and the world paddling community what we have planned! See you on June 22nd in New York City!
