Kana Lui Miami was started in September of 2004. The Club was formed to promote the sport of outrigger canoe racing in Miami, Fl. Our club is based at the Miami Rowing Club in Key Biscayne. Our club is comprised of paddlers of all ages and skill levels but one thing we share in common is the passion for our sport while fostering the Aloha spirit of an extended and strong Ohana.

Kana Lui Miami comes from Key Biscayne. The team regularly encounters hot and humid weather, and conditions can drastically change with torrential downpours from unexpected thunderstorms. Key Biscayne is home to many migrating species of sharks, manatees, and even a few saltwater crocodiles. The team volunteers with the Shake a Leg foundation which benefits children by taking them out on canoes to experience outrigger padding. The club hosts an annual Nish Memorial race dedicated to its departed coach. The format of the race is a 28+ mile relay. Its first year entering the Liberty Challenge was in 2012. The “Wai Pili Pono” crew was born from the Liberty race. The crew name reflects the spirit of paddling and how strangers separated by oceans can be bonded by love for OC paddling.
