The 2016 Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge took place at Hudson River Park‘s Pier 26 in the Tribeca district of Manhattan on West Street between N. Moore Street and Hubert Street.
In 1997 New York Outrigger hosted New York City’s first outrigger canoe race. The event was held at Pier 25 in in Tribeca at the newly formed Hudson River Park. After several years in Tribeca the event moved up Manhattan’s westside and eventually over to Brooklyn Bridge Park. In 2013 Liberty returned to Hudson River Park and Tribeca’s revitalized waterfront. From 2013-2016 the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty challenge was held at Pier 26 bringing a new generation of the world’s outrigger paddlers to downtown Manhattan.
